There’s no denying Long Beach has lost some of its best and brightest this year, with the passing of Fred Khammar over the Christmas weekend the hits just keep on coming. He was loved, admired and cherished by those who knew him.

Khammar was well-known as the owner of Alfredo’s Beach Club, who annually organize several popular Long Beach events including Pirate Invasion, Moonlight Movies on the Beach and the Tiki Beach Festival. He passed away after suffering a massive heart attack on December 23 at his Bullhead City, Arizona home.

“The city of Long Beach lost a living legend,” said musician J.C. Lawson in a Facebook post, “He loved Long Beach, and tried to make memorable experiences for families and kids

“Fred was always smiling and laughing. He genuinely cared about how you were doing,” said DLBA CEO, Kraig Kojian, “To overstate the obvious, he lived life to the fullest and loved every minute of it.”

We can all strive to enjoy life and work the way Fred did, as he told the Press-Telegram in a 2011 interview, “I’ve been on vacation the last 35 years. I’m busy all the time, but I don’t feel like I’ve worked a day in my life.”
