The DLBA is closing out a year of expertly-curated Live After 5 events with a special year-end edition on Thursday, December 8 appropriately named Holiday Lights. And as always, we aim to make live music and entertainment accessible to all – so admission is free.

Live After 5: Holiday Lights is curated by Alyssandra Nighswonger, Long Beach musician, open mic host, and all-around adventure hound. She has curated some of her most swoon-worthy bands in the city for an intimate night of wonder across four different Downtown locations. Each location will also have a light-art installation to set the mood.

Long Beach music-lovers are in for a night of music like no other, as they’ll hit up Hellada Gallery, East Village Arts Park, Rainbow Juices, and MADE by Millworks all on the same night. Here’s your lineup (it’s a big one!):

The Folk Stage
Hellada Gallery – 117 Linden Ave
5PM to 7PM

Cat Cunningham, a deep-velvety-voiced Woody Guthrie-esque dreamboat. He writes songs about life and the things he sees.Bearcoon

Bearcoon, OC Weekly’s “Best Folk Band” and Long Beach Post’s “Album of the Year” winners, will be playing their captivating indie folk (tinged in Southern soul) with undeniable chemistry.

The Indie Garage Rock Stage
Crooked SquaresEast Village Arts Park – 150 Elm Ave
6PM – 8PM

The Crooked Squares can only be described as forlorn and whimsical, with a touch of Daniel Johnston & the Modern Lovers meeting Elliot Smith.

Kurtis E. & The Plumes will bring their feel-good and groovy indie rock to the stage.

Up and Coming LB Indie Bands Stage
Rainbow Juices Courtyard – 246 E 3rd Street
7PM – 9PM

Janie will deliver their alt-country/dream-pop, or as some say: Wilco meets Weezer.

King Kang is led by Esther Kang, with hypnotic guitar melodies and emotive vocals, their music not easily classifiable, their influences range from funk and bossanova to hip-hop and groove rock. But one thing’s for sure, they’ll rock your socks off.

Dreamy Dreamboat Stage
MADE by Millworks – 240 Pine Ave
8PM – 11PM

Miniature Houses mixes elements of folk and pop with delicate harmonies, melodica, bells, and acoustic guitar. Their sound draws upon that pre-dawn feeling of melancholy and heartache.
Alyssandra Nighswonger
Alyssandra Nighswonger, our brilliant curator for this night, is also a dreamy singer-songwriter who has formed a rich new band with a focus on harmonies.

Jeremy Radin, is an actor and poet, he has toured the U.S. with his debut book Slow Dance with Sasquatch (Write Bloody Publishing, 2012) where you may have caught a glimpse of him sitting in a restaurant, aggressively eating pancakes by himself.
Greater California
Greater California hail from the burghs of Long Beach and are the perfect blend of velvety 60’s style folk psychedelia, often inspired by the works of Nick Drake, R.E.M. and the Byrds.
