When Michelle Qazi opened her store on online home business hub Etsy last year, she dreamed of switching from the digital world into a brick-and-mortar home for 6th & Detroit—a dream that has become a reality as the boutique formally opens the doors of its East Village location at 105 Linden Ave. with a special grand opening on Saturday, June 4.

“I am so inspired to help people find that one special item that they have always wanted for their home, or never knew they did”, Qazi said. “I’ve always sought to make 6th And Detroit stand out by mixing styles in creative diverse looks, having the utmost care in quality, and making sure the photography and staging was exceptional.”

Of course, it wasn’t an instantaneous occurrence. In 2003, Qazi moved into her first apartment and discovered, like many with an appreciation for the past, a love for vintage furnishings. Her centers for discovery? Goodwill and The Salvation Army, the two nonprofits that largely furnished her humble abode. Her heart raced seeing all the treasures of the past. And, that’s where the love affair began, filling up her apartment on 6th And Detroit.

Beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5PM, guests can then stroll the store’s offerings while enjoying food and drinks catered by Tantalum Restaurant, Frosted Cupcakery and Company of Khan. Even better? A special live performance by Tigers in the Sky with musical stylings by DJ PlusOne and Hellcat.

”I cares a great deal about making beautiful unique items accessible to the public and making them feel like they are walking into a warm, welcoming home when they come to shop,” Qazi said.
