Tomorrow will welcome a health care symposium where the public is invited to learn about a variety of topics raining from mental health to spirituality in healthy living.

Taking place on May 14 from 9AM to 2PM at the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Gymnasium on Carson St., the Long Beach Health Care Symposium will have one focus in mind: how can we reduce stress, social exclusion, toxic working conditions, unemployment, addiction, malnutrition and social neglect, all of which contribute to many health related issues rather than improve the overall health of all who live in the greater Long Beach area?

This 2016 gathering is hopeful to achieve the following objectives:

  • To strengthen existing relationships and foster new ones among health providers and community partners committed to reducing health differences in Long Beach and surrounding cities.
  • To create a safe space where health professionals, policy makers, administrators, students, residents, service providers and leaders can increase their awareness of social determinants of health and the implications of health inequality.
  • To bring together those who are invested in the community from all relevant sectors and share evidence-based strategies that promote health equity and address the social determinants of health at the community level.
  • To highlight innovative partnerships and best practices for research and service delivery that addresses the social determinants of health.

Kelly Colopy, the Director of the Health and Human Services Department for the City of Long Beach, will be giving the keynote while special guest John Molina, CFO for Molina Healthcare, will be overseeing as a moderator of panels.
