We’ve long touted of our love for hotel bars and restaurants and their versatility in acting as both watering hole and event space—which is precisely why we are taking over two of DTLB’s finest hotel bars, Hyatt Centric’s Bay Street Bar and SIP at the Renaissance Hotel, to bring you some of the finest live music. All for free on August 11.

This is Live After 5: The Hotel Series.

Invading the Hyatt Centric at the Pike from 7PM to 10PM will be a pure R&B vibe that echoes our previous Neo Soulstice event. Headlining will be neo-soul songstress Mickey Taelor, fresh off her gig at SXSW and out with new work alongside Grammy-winning producer Willie B. Echoing the likes of Lauryn Hill and Billie Holiday, Taelor’s funk’n’soul is sure to accompany her fellow performers: the hypnotic beats of both DRTYWTRZ and NiceGuyxVinny (just signed onto Soulection Records).

”There’s something simultaneously urban and old-school about hotel bars—and everything about the artists showing up at Hyatt Centric reflect that in their approach to neo-soul,” said guest curator Tokotah Ashcraft. “Long Beach is rife with R&B and soul artists and I wanted to reflect that with these performers. They are all young cats with old souls.”

Speaking of old souls, SIP at the Renaissance will be graced by the Sinatra-like sounds of The Black Market Trust, a full-scale ode to the Rat Pack and the music of a bygone generation. They will do a two-hour set from 5PM to 7PM, providing the perfect sequel into the Centric’s musical offerings.
